HCC Eco Center is a state-of-the-art technology established by the alumnae of Holy Cross College in 2017. This ecocentre is a pioneering effort in the city to recycle used papers.

At HCC Eco Centre, used answer sheets, workbooks, and other paper-based materials are collected from various places within the college and processed to manufacture utility items for students and others. Creative hands work together to manufacture a variety of products:

  • File containers
  • Paper bags
  • Writing pads
  • Dustbins
  • Pen stands
  • Wedding gift bags

Stylish recycled files are made in assorted styles including button files, clip files, folders, and diary model files. These are used as souvenirs during in-house workshops, conferences, meetings, and other occasions.

Process

The HCC Eco Center unit is fully equipped with water containers, grinding and rolling machines, and other raw materials such as color powders, clips, and elastics. The process involves seven steps:

  1. Used papers/sheets are finely ground using water from the water container.
  2. The ground paper is mixed with desired coloring substances.
  3. The mixture is processed using roller machines into cards.
  4. The cards are dried in the shade for 10 hours.
  5. The dried cards are measured and cut according to the need of the desired products.

Thus, the HCC Eco Center unit helps in recycling used papers and for producing useful finished products, thereby alleviating environmental hazards.
