Physical Education
Holy Cross College proves its credit in the academic and athletic spheres from the day of its inception till date. Started with the dictum that “A sound body harbors a sound mind” Holy Cross College developed physical education as a part of the curricular activities. Since 1936 Physical Education Department has found a sound place and made fast development in the college in various sports activities and games. In 1950 high level sports and games were adapted in the college and in 1951 Holy Cross College began to participate in inter- collegiate tournaments. Madras university tournaments and sports have been held in our College quite often since 1960. In 1978-79 the playground at Holy Cross College was re-laid and well set having been devasted by the floods of November 1977. In 1979-80, class-wise and inter- departmental tournament and sports were introduced on a regular annual feature instead of on inter- house basis. The Holy Cross sports club was started in June 1980 and the club won many laurels and awards. The basketball court in our college premises was constructed in the year 1979-80.
In the year 1981-82 our college had the unique opportunity of hosting the Madras University Inter – Division basketball tournaments and Thanjavur division Inter – Collegiate tournaments and sports. The year 1982-83 witnesses the starting of Bharathidasan university sports and tournaments. To commemorate 75 years of service in the course of education, a newly measured basketball court, the first of its kind in Tamil Nadu was constructed in our college campus. Our college has won the team championship many times in the district level and inter - collegiate competitions by maximum participation. Many of our students have represented district, division, university, Tamil Nadu and India for various games and sports. From 2018 onwards free education for eligible sports persons was given. New sports kit (uniforms, shoes, boot and stick) is given to all the players. Hostel facilities for the players. We conduct coaching camps with experts and qualified coaches, during coaching camp nutritional diet is provided for the players. In 2019 well equipped gym was established.
Holy Cross College reached its peak performance in sports and is maintained from 2000 to 2023 nearly two decades in the same peak level. In all the game main team players are directly selected to represent Tamilnadu and Bharathidasan University. Our College participated in the maximum number of competitions held at the District Level and Inter Collegiate level and won team championship. Many of our students represented district, division, All India and South Zone Inter-University, Tamilnadu and India for various games and sports

Ms. Gomathi Marimuthu won the 800 meters gold at the 23rd Asian Athletics Championship (AAC) in Doha, Qatar and is a proud alumna of our Holy Cross College. |

Ms. M. Shanmuga Priya set a national record in weight and powerlifting and was selected to represent in the international competition at Russia. |

Ms. Krishna Priya set the University / National record for Triple Jump, won the Gold Medal in the All India Inter-University competition, and received a cash award from the Ex Honorable Chief Minister Ms. J. Jaeyalalitha. She was also selected to represent our country in the International Competition held at Iran. |
