The UG Programme is for a period of three years and PG Programme for a period of two years. Each year will consist of two semesters’ viz. Odd and Even semesters. Odd semesters shall be from to June to October/November and Even semesters shall be from November / December to April / May. There shall be a minimum of 90 working days.
There shall be examinations at the end of each semester odd semesters in the Month of October / November; for even semester in April / May. A candidate who does not pass the examination in any course(s) may be permitted to appear in such failed course(s) in the subsequent examinations to be held in October / November or April / May
However candidates who have arrears in Practicals shall be permitted to take their arrear practical examination with the regular practical examination (odd or even) irrespective of the semester.
Viva-Voce
Each candidate shall be required to appear for viva-voce examination (in defense of the project only)
Evaluation Pattern
The question paper pattern for the end semester examination is as follows:
Part A Ten questions with no choice Two questions from each unit 10 x 2 = 20 mks
Part B Five Questions with EITHER OR choice One question from each unit 5 x 7 = 35 mks
Part C: Five questions, one question from each Unit. Out of five, three questions to be answered. 15 x 3 = 45.
The student’s performance is evaluated in terms of percentage of marks with a provision for grade point conversion. Evaluation of each course is done by a continuous internal assessment as well as by an end semester examination. At the end of each semester the marks are consolidated. Passing Minimum
Under Graduate Programme: The passing minimum for the External Semester Examination is 40% and aggregate 40% together with the Internal Assessment. There is no passing minimum for continuous Internal Assessment.
Post Graduate Programme: The passing minimum for the External Semester Examination is 45% and aggregate 50% together with the Internal Assessment. There is no passing minimum for continuous Internal Assessment.
Grading System
Passing Minimum is 40% ESE & 40% in Aggregate for U.G. and 45% ESE & 50% in Aggregate for P.G.
CIA is 50% & ESE is 50% of Total Marks.

Credits
Credit refers to the weightage given to a course, usually in relation to the instructional hours and content of the course assigned to it. The total minimum credits, required for completing a UG Programme is 140 and PG Programme is 90. The details of credits for individual components and individual courses shall be obtained from the course structure of the syllabus provided to the students.
Ranking System
Two rank certificates shall be issued for every Programme under Autonomous Stream. The Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, conducts University Rank Examination (URE) for the toppers in every programme.
