HISTORY
The Department of Visual Communication, Holy Cross College(Autonomous), Trichy, stands as a trailblazer in Media Education since its establishment in 2002. Renowned for its commitment to merging theory with practice, the department has nurtured creativity and innovation in students, making it a hub for aspiring media professionals. Elevated to a postgraduate department in 2004, it introduced MPhil program, and by 2015, it further expanded into a distinguished research center with doctoral program.
A defining moment in its history was the launch of the Holy Cross Communication Centre Video Studio on September 27, 2004, inaugurated by playback singer Sri Vani Jeyaram, symbolizing a new era of practical media training. This was followed by the introduction of the Holy Cross Community Radio (FM 09.4 MHz) on December 19, 2006, inaugurated by Dr. Ramamurthy Sridhar, reflecting the department’s embrace of diverse media platforms for community engagement.
Equipped with facilities like the Mac Video Studio, Recording Theatre, Chroma Key Shoot Space, and a preview theatre, the department aims to create a center for advanced Visual Media training. Its mission is to provide a holistic media education, enabling students to explore diverse career paths while understanding media's societal role.
The department fosters creativity through annual events like Media Mora, Shot 24 Seasons, and Photography Expo. In 2024, new clubs—Cultural, Sports, Human Rights, and Mental Wellbeing—were established in the department, emphasizing holistic development. With a blend of tradition and innovation, the department remains a dynamic space where students thrive in media production, critical analysis, and creative exploration.
