History

The Department of Medical Laboratory Technology was introduced in the year 2002 under the affiliation of the Academic Board, AIMLTA (All India Medical Laboratory Technologists Association), Patna with 40 students. The course inculcated various diagnostic techniques for clinical and research purposes. The department organized free internship programs in various clinical laboratories for hands-on training for the benefit of students. The Department was upgraded to a 2-year DMLT in the 2012 academic year. Then, a 1-year PGDMLT was introduced in 2015 for the benefit of graduate students. In collaboration with RESCAPES, the department organized various blood grouping, BMI, and anemia screening camps in RESCAPES adopted villages. The diploma holders were appointed as lab technicians in various hospitals like Apollo Hospital, Cancer Research Centre, SMS Hospital, KMC Hospital, Doctors Diagnostic Centre, Trichy Diabetic Speciality Centre, Government Hospitals, SRM Medical College & Research Centre, Friend’s Blood Bank, and other diagnostic centers all over Tamil Nadu.
