 Department Profile

Established in 1923, the Department of English began its mission of educating young girls of all the departments as an Intermediary course to develop their communication skills. Over time it has evolved into one of the largest departments in the College.

The department slowly expanded its academic repertoire over the decades:

The undergraduate programme was launched.

The postgraduate programme was launched.

Ph.D. Research Began
The department was recognised as a research centre.

M.Phil. Introduced
The M.Phil. programme was launched.

B.A. English (Shift II)
A second-shift undergraduate programme was introduced.
