History
The Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology was established in Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli in the year 2010. The department is affiliated to Bharathidasan University and recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). Since its inception, the department is working with the motto to serve people with communication disorders. The main objectives of the department are to bring out qualified professionals who can independently identify, diagnose and plan intervention plans for various Speech and Hearing disorders. The department also aims in creating awareness among general population about Speech and Hearing disorders, including various segments of the society. The department serves as a Resource Centre for other organizations and individuals in the field of Speech and Hearing. For the benefit of the society the department strives to train skilled and committed professionals in the field of Speech and Hearing. The department was included in the school of Rehabilitation & Behavioural Sciences in the year 2017.
Uniqueness
B. ASLP is a 4-year professional degree program approved by Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). The students will undergo 6 semesters (3 years) of course work and 2 semesters (1 year) of internship. It is designed for the students to develop diagnostic and clinical skills required for the assessment and management of disorders of speech, language, swallowing, hearing and balance. The students are motivated to perform research activities during the course of program. The students will actively participate in various camps and community promotional activities related to the assessment and management of disorders of speech, language and hearing disabilities. After finishing this programme, the professionals are accepted in a variety of setups including Hospitals/ Medical Colleges, Special/ Inclusive Schools, Academic Institutes, NGOs working with Disabled and Rehabilitation Centers, Hearing Aid manufactures, Early Intervention Centers, and Independent Private Practice.
