Bridge Course



General Course Description

This course is for the first year students to facilitate and bridge the gap between school and college level of learning. This training focuses on improving the LSRW skills of the new comers.  It is offered for five hours a day for a period of 10 days before the college begins for regular classes. The students are streamlined at three levels: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced based on the Entry Level Test. The Courses are designed according to the stream.

I Bridge Course for Basic Level:

Course Description

            The students who qualify for the basic level are grouped into batches. They are trained in LSRW skills.  A number of group activities, conversational practices, and vocabulary through activity based learning, letter writing, reading comprehension, pronunciation and enactments are conducted. The progress of the students are tested with an exit level test on the last day

Course Objectives

The course aims to

  • Help students acquire proficiency in LSRW skills
  • Provide the learners a platform for expression and promote autonomy to think in the second language
  • Develop confidence in communicating oneself spontaneously

Course Outcomes

At the end of this course,

  • The students will be able to read simple sentences in English
  • Identify basic grammatical structures
  • Converse in simple sentences in class room

II Bridge Course for Advance Level Learners

Course Description

This course for the intermediate level learners aims to facilitate and bridge the gap between school and college level of learning. The focus of the training is not only to develop English language skills but also aims to prepare the learner for the college classroom learning ambience.  This course helps learners acquire language skills through activity based learning.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course the students would be able to

  • To provide the learners a fear- free platform for expression and promote autonomy to think in the second language
  • To develop confidence in communicating oneself spontaneously
  • To develop confidence in interacting with the teacher and peer
  • To help students acquire proficiency in LSRW skills
  • To help learners speak English with accuracy

Course Outcomes

At the end of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Speak with confidence utilizing proper language skills
  • Learn new vocabulary and communicate their ideas in a coherent manner

III Bridge Course for Advance Level Learners

Course Description

This intensive course for the advance level learners aims to facilitate the scaling up process to bridge the gap between school and college level of learning. The focus of the training is not only to develop English language skills but also to prepare the learner for the college classroom learning atmosphere. Inputs on polite usage of English language, Academic Reading, Formal and Informal Writing, Public speaking, Communication Etiquette and Non-verbal communication would be given.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course the students would be able to

  • Demonstrate an increased ability to respond appropriately in formal conversation
  • Distinguish between formal and informal writing
  • Analyze and infer information presented in different learning sources.
  • Develop audience sense for communicating effectively

Course Outcome:

The students would have:

  • Acquired the basics of LSRW skills
  • Developed their Research Writing skills
  • Designed a Personal Development Plan for the academic year focusing on Communication Skills
  • Become a more confident individual
